This notice is issued by the Financial Supervision Commission (“the Commission”) in accordance with the powers conferred upon it under Section 22 of the Financial Supervision Act 1988.

(updated from Public Warnings JPM/16/2004 issued 11 May 2004 and JPM/7/2004 issued 23 March 2004 to include additional fax number and entity)

The Financial Supervision Commission have been made aware of telephone calls allegedly originating from a Thomas Jones of Jones Atkins Investments. This entity purports, within the calls, to be located in the Isle of Man. The Commission have carried out extensive enquiries and have been unable to identify any such entity in, or genuinely associated with the Isle of Man.

Jones Atkins Investments is not a company incorporated within the jurisdiction of the Isle of Man. It is not registered as a foreign company having established a place of business on the Isle of Man. It is not registered as a business name on the Isle of Man.

The caller asks the person receiving the call to fax information back to the entity.

Subsequent information obtained by the Commission would suggest that the number given which has been reported as:

09061 101 495

may be a “premium rate” line and in conjunction with the above information, relating to the alleged entity, would suggest that the intent of the calls was to defraud the recipient. The fax number is not an Isle of Man based number and appears to be issued by a United Kingdom telecommunications provider.

The Commission have also received reports that the entity has given a contact telephone number of

0871 7811 400.

This number is not an Isle of Man based number and appears to be issued by a United Kingdom telecommunications provider. This number is identical to that which appeared in the Public Warning issued on 11 May 2004 under the heading Johnstone Brown Investments, FSC reference JPM/16/2004.

The caller has been reported as giving an address for the entity of 15 Victoria Street, Douglas. The Commission is satisfied that the entity does not occupy such address nor does it have any genuine connection with it.

A visit to the premises also revealed correspondence to an entity by the name Thomas Jones & Company at the address of 15 Victoria Street, Douglas. Thomas Jones & Company is not a company incorporated within the jurisdiction of the Isle of Man. It is not registered as a foreign company having established a place of business on the Isle of Man. It is not registered as a business name on the Isle of Man. The reported name of an individual connected with the entity Jones Atkins Investments was Thomas Jones.

The Commission would strongly urge persons receiving calls purporting to originate from Jones Atkins Investments to refrain from calling any numbers given, bearing in mind the contents of this public notice.

A warning regarding text, email and fax scams was issued by the United Kingdom Department of Trade and Industry on 11th November 2002.
