Bogus Lottery Winnings - Cidy Marthins Omonzejele

This notice is issued by the Financial Supervision Commission (“the Commission”) in accordance with the powers conferred upon it under Section 30 of the Financial Services Act 2008.

 

The Commission has recently become aware of documentation received by members of the Public regarding Bogus Lottery Winnings. The documentation falsely states that the recipient has won a sum of US$1,000,000.00 in the “American lottery Award” (sic).

Also in the documentation seen by the Commission it states that in order to receive the “guaranteed American Award, you are required to complete and return the payment form attached to this letter with GBP£75 claim fee.” In further documentation it states “…you will also be required to pay the cost of account set up fees, processing/documentation e.g.: Non-resident permit & transfer charges totally amounted $3,850.00 USD…”.

There is also a document which states it is a “Power of Attorney” for the “Office of the Solicitor to the Advocate General” and it states in this document “…To do all these acts necessary to be done lawfully in my name and on my behalf as would have been done by me for the purpose of the prompt release of the above winning prize…

It also states in the documentation “…you are required to meet a Legal Tax Notary and Legal Signing fees of Four hundred and Eighty Pounds (£479) for Notarizing and Signing of your Legal Papers (Affidavit Of Eligibility) and release…” (sic). “Make the cash deposit my legal charges through the name of my chief accountant, CIDY MARTHINS OMONZEJELE…” (sic).

There is also further documentation, one document purports to be a “Transfer Application Form” and the other a “Regular Saver Deposit Account Application Form”. On these forms there is a copy of the Irish Nationwide Building Society logo. The Irish Nationwide Building Society is incorporated in Dublin, Ireland and regulated by the Financial Regulator in Ireland. The genuine Irish Nationwide Building Society is not connected or associated to these bogus lottery documents in any way.

The address given on the “Transfer Application Form” and other documentation is “PO Box 188 5 Hill Street, Douglas Isle of Man IM99 1UG British Isles”. This is a genuine Isle of Man address of the genuine Irish Nationwide (I.O.M.) Limited. The genuine Irish Nationwide (I.O.M.) Limited is not connected or associated to these bogus lottery documents in any way.

The genuine Irish Nationwide (I.O.M.) Limited is licensed by the Isle of Man Financial Supervision Commission to undertake Deposit Taking business. Details of all genuine licenceholders of the Commission are available via our website on www.fsc.gov.im.

The telephone and fax numbers quoted within the documentation are not Isle of Man numbers and are not associated in any way with the genuine Irish Nationwide International Limited or Irish Nationwide Building Society.

Under the circumstances the Financial Supervision Commission feels that this documentation is being issued to tempt the recipient into becoming the victim of an Advance Fee Fraud.

OR Is an attempt at gaining personal data from the recipient in order to steal their identity.

Under the circumstances the Commission would encourage people receiving documentation matching the above description to refrain from responding to them in any way. Any persons who are already involved in any dealings resulting from the above documentation and who have concerns should contact the Enforcement Division on +44 1624 689314 or by email to fsc@gov.im.

Any persons who have paid out funds in relation to the above documentation or who have provided personal financial details in relation to the above documentation should consider contacting their local police fraud unit without delay. Any persons who may have concerns as to whether or not they are dealing with the genuine Irish Nationwide International Limited or Irish Nationwide Building Society may wish to satisfy themselves by contacting the genuine Irish Nationwide International Limited or Irish Nationwide Building Society.
