This notice is issued by the Isle of Man Financial Services Authority (“the Authority”) in accordance with the powers conferred upon it under Section 30 of the Financial Services Act 2008.

Update to Public Warning issued on 14 March 2024

 

The Authority has become aware of a bogus entity claiming to represent the Isle of Man based entity FIM Capital Limited.  The bogus entity may use details of genuine FIM Capital staff members but the hyperlink supplied for further details is not in any way linked to the genuine FIM Capital Limited. Recent attempts have been made using the Telegram platform, which the genuine entity has confirmed they do not engage with.

 

The Authority wishes to draw attention to the following observations:

 

The genuine FIM Capital Limited is licensed to undertake a number of regulated activities in the Isle of Man. They have confirmed that the bogus entity is in no way connected to them or their business activities in the Isle of Man.

 

If you are in any way concerned about contact you have had with FIM Capital Limited you can contact them through their legitimate website at www.fimcapital.co.im

 

Under the circumstances, the Authority is concerned that any person who has followed the links on the bogus social media posts relating to FIM Capital Limited may potentially become the victim of fraud or it may be an attempt at gaining personal data from the browser in order to steal their identity.

 

General advice on how to avoid becoming a victim of identity theft and advanced fee frauds can be found on the Action Fraud website at http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/ID and http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/fraud-az-advance-fee-fraud respectively.

 

Any persons who are already involved in any dealings with the potentially fraudulent entity should consider notifying their local Police, bringing to their attention the contents of this notice.

 

Any cyber related concerns involving the internet, email, telephone communications, or any other matter involving electronic communications can be reported to the Cyber Security Centre for the Isle of  Man at their website https://csc.gov.im/cyber-concerns-online-reporting-form/
