Meridian Trust Bank / www.meridiantrustbank.com

This notice is issued by the Financial Supervision Commission (“the Commission”) in accordance with the powers conferred upon it under Section 22 of the Financial Supervision Act 1988.

The Meridian website www.meridiantrustbank.com has been brought to the attention of the Commission.

Although the website cannot currently be accessed, the Commission has been informed that Meridian through the website claims to offer banking services and to have an office at PO Box 743, Meridian Court, 52 Circular Road, Douglas, Isle of Man IM99 1RH.

To conduct banking business in or from the Isle of Man requires a banking licence issued by the Commission under the Banking Act 1998. Meridian does not possess a banking licence, nor is there any record of Meridian having applied for a banking licence. Offering or actually providing banking services in or from the Isle of Man without the relevant licence from the Commission is a criminal offence.

As far as the Commission can ascertain, there is no building at 52 Circular Road, which is currently open ground used as a car park. In addition, the contact telephone numbers on the Meridian website are not Isle of Man telephone numbers. The Commission has therefore been unable to establish that any genuine link exists between Meridian and the Isle of Man.

The Commission would urge any person considering doing business with Meridian to exercise the greatest possible caution, bearing in mind the content of this Public Notice. A similar notice was posted in February 2003 on the website of the Jersey Financial Services Commission.

Any persons with any concerns about Meridian should contact the Enforcement Division on +44 1624 689312 or by email to fsc@gov.im.
